THEHYBRID JACKET 1st Australian Workwear Brand to use Recycled Polyester Synthetic fibres are the most popular fibres in the world. Polyester accounts for 70% o these synthetic fibres and are commonly made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate). The majority of the world’s PET production, about 60%, is used to make fibres for textile. Approximately 30% is used to make bottles. Ever wondered what happens to your disposable PET water bottles? They end up in landfill, waterways and oceans. ELEVEN Workwear is doing our bit for the environment by adopting eco textiles and making good use of these bottles, turning them into functional workwear. How is our recycled polyester manufactured: 1. PET Bottles are collected, sterilized, dried and crushed into small chips 2. These chips are heated and passed through a spinneret to form strings of filament yarn 3. This yarn is wound into spools 4. The filament is then processed using a crimping machine to create a soft pliable textured yarn 5. This yarn is then baled, dyed and knitted or weaved into polyester fabric. The process of converting PET bottles into recycled polyester requires about half the energy it takes to process normal polyester. Recycled polyester has the added benefit of being able to be recycled again with no degradation of quality. Using recycled polyester lessens our dependence on petroleum as a source of raw materials, as well as reducing landfill and reducing toxic emissions.
